The Lie of the Left: Biden’s Amtrak story serves to illustrate both his connection with average workers and his fondness for Amtrak, the rail service he famously used for years to commute between Washington and his home state of Delaware. The story details a conversation he had with a particular Amtrak conductor he knew.
The Truth: The story doesn’t add up, and keeps changing from week to week, month to month, year to year. The timeline is false (probably to protect the innocent?) and nobody can corroborate the exchange, except the man that keeps changing his own story, President Biden.
Here is the infamous Amtrak story as told by Biden October 2021:
Earlier this month President Biden remarked at a news conference: “Swear to God. True Story. I was dubbed Mr. Amtrak… toward the end of my term” as vice president, “a headline came out in all of the papers” regaling us with his prolific use of Air Force planes — “1.3 million miles” or “1.7 million miles” Biden says, depending on which story he is telling at any given time.
Biden states that as he was getting on the Amtrak train that particular day, that Mr. Negri grabbed him affectionately by the cheek and said, “Joey, baby!” Biden said he had been concerned Negri would be shot by the Secret Service, so he had assured agents that Negri was a friend. Then, he said, Negri scoffed that Biden’s number of miles traveled on Air Force planes was no “big deal” — because Negri and others had figured out that Biden had traveled a greater number of miles on Amtrak trains over his career in Washington.
Biden quoted Negri as saying: “At that retirement dinner, we calculated it.” He said Negri had explained the math, then concluded, “Joey, you traveled more on Amtrak.”
Although the basic outline of the story remains intact, the destination is as fluid as are other details. He variously states he was the vice-president or he was a senator. It was 2009 or 2017. He was on his way to visit his dying mother, who died 5 years before Biden hit the “million-mile mark” or he was on his way to Capitol Hill. (Why does Biden always bring his dead family members into every speech/story? We ALL have dead family members Joe. Get over it.)
But the media allows these transgressions to waft off like smoke in the wind. It’s just good ole Uncle Joe doing what he does best. Lie. Lie. Lie.
We realize that Biden was friends with the Amtrak conductor he is speaking of, Angelo Negri. But Mr. Negri had been retired for more than 20 years and had been dead for more than a year before they conceivably could have had the conversation Biden says they had. The President would have to have access to a Time Machine or be able to warp time and space to have actually had this conversation as described.
Or we can all just be real and admit that our Commander In Chief, Our Dear Leader, Our President is a liar?
